| The census of 1860 listed twice a person born in Scotland and named Ellen Curran (age 17 and 18) , who was older than Daniel (age 16) and younger than Sarah (age 20) and who was residing with Denis Curran and family in Chicago. Until we get more information from other documents, we will not know whether this Ellen Curran was a child of Denis and Sarah or, perhaps, Daniel's new wife, Elizabeth Payne Curran (age 17), who was sometimes called Ellen. The child theory is supported by the fact that Elizabeth Payne was born in New York and was still listed as residing with her father, step-mother, and siblings in the census of 1860. |
