A sister-in-law named Hanah Geary (b. c. 1878) was living with William and Kate in April 1910. After the death of Kate Geary [DS.4.4S1], William Curran [DS.4.4] married her sister, Margaret [DS.4.4S2]. Though it seems likely that Hanah and Margaret were the same person, I have no confirmation of that guess. |

Jobs In the census of 1 June 1880, William [DS.4.4] (then age 13) was recorded as residing with his parents and working in a dry goods store. Will [DS.4.4] became a "state factory inspector". He would inspect for smoke, working conditions, sprinklers, etc. Andrew Wender Cohen, an analyst of labor union organizations, wrote24 that "William H. 'Red' Curran, ... worked as a bailiff, a deputy sheriff, a brewery agent, a Republican aldermanic candidate, a plumbing contractor, an officer of the plumbers union, President of the Chicago Building Trades Council, and Illinois State Factory Inspector." |
|
Stories Will [DS.4.4] was the fourth surviving child of Daniel Curran [DS.4] and Elizabeth Payne [DS.4S]. Like many of the Currans, Will [DS.4.4] was bald in his later years. |
|
Death Will died after his
brother Tom, i.e. after November 1928, and before 20 July 1933
when a newspaper article identified his wife as a widow. |
|
Will [DS.4.4] married Kate Geary [DS.4.4S] (b. Dec 1869, d. after 15 April 1910) and had at least seven children: DS.4.4.1

Translator's Notes: There seem to be some errors with the text. 1) line 2, first word is not AE, a Latin ending, but AC, a word meaning "and." 2) line 2, third word is not NEE, but either NEC or NE, each meaning "not." 3) Gulielnua (?) is probably a handwritten or typed error for Gulielnum as the name above it. The grammar with all the participles and prepositions makes this read in a very stilted manner, but I thought you would want as precise a translation and as close to the original as possible. The Latin is of course not Classical and has grammar mistakes (though good English) and is not balanced. |

Notes: 1. The date of baptism of the bride was recorded as the same as the date of her marriage. This may have been a transcribing error by Father Pickert. If not, then it means that the bride became a Catholic on the day of her marriage. 2. The date of baptism recorded for the groom was actually his date of birth according to the Record of Baptism quoted above. |

Jobs and Stories Tommy [DS.4.4.4]
was Superintendent of the City of Chicago Asphalt Plant. He [DS.4.4.4]
once planned to run for the position of state representative
in opposition to his uncle, Jim Curran [DS.4.7]. Tommy withdrew
from the race, however, after he was convinced that this would
be necessary if he wanted to keep on living. Marty Sweeney [DS.4.7.6S]
told me that this message was communicated by persons unnamed
who briefly stuck Tommy's head into a furnace.
